How do I confirm my 529 plan is linked to Backpack?

To confirm your 529 is linked, here's how to check your 529 plan's bank information

Most 529 Plans do not allow visibility into their accounts, so Backpack can’t directly confirm whether your plan is linked.

However, you can confirm through your 529 Plan's portal. Here’s how you can check:

Steps to confirm:

  • Log in to your 529 plan's web portal.

  • Look for your Backpack account details under “Linked Accounts” or “Bank Information.”

    • Note: Your 529 plan might list the bank name as Old Missouri Bank, that’s normal! Banking services are provided by Old Missouri Bank (also referred to as OMB Bank), so don’t worry if you don’t see “Backpack” listed.

  • For extra added peace of mind, you can reach out to your 529 plan’s support team and ask them to confirm that your Backpack / Old Missouri Bank account has been successfully added as a new bank account.

Special note for Fidelity Direct Sold Plans:

If your 529 plan is a direct-sold* plan with Fidelity, you don’t need to link your Backpack account at all. We just need your Fidelity account number when you make a payment, no setup required.

The following are direct-sold Fidelity plans:

  • Connecticut Higher Education Trust (CHET)

  • AZ529, Arizona's Education Savings Plan

  • The UNIQUE College Investing Plan, New Hampshire

  • DE529 Education Savings Plan by Fidelity, Delaware

  • U.Fund 529 College Savings Plan, Massachusetts
