My Scholarship Provider Wants to Mail a Check. What Should I Do?

If your scholarship provider is asking for a mailing address to send a paper check, here's what to do instead.

Updated today

Universities partnered with Backpack no longer accept paper checks for scholarship payments. Instead, payments are sent electronically through the Backpack portal, which is faster and more secure for everyone involved.

What to tell your provider

Let your provider know that your school accepts electronic payments through your school’s Backpack Scholarship Portal. You won’t need to share a mailing address. Instead, you’ll initiate a submission through the scholarship portal and Backpack will email your provider a payment link to complete payment of your scholarship. From there, Backpack walks your scholarship provider through the payment options.

How to get started

To kick things off, follow our step-by-step guide here:

Before you begin, make sure you have your provider’s email address on hand. That’s how they’ll receive the payment link to complete the transaction.
