Many scholarship providers and third-party payers use payment systems that automatically send remittance notices, payment detail emails, or ACH confirmations when a payment is initiated. These emails are common and expected — but they need to go to the right place.

Important: Remittance notices do not replace the need to submit scholarship information through the school's portal
Sending a remittance notice to Backpack does not replace the need to submit scholarship information through the University’s scholarship portal.
Scholarship providers must still submit all required scholarship details through the portal, including the student information, scholarship amount, term, and any other required award details. Without that information, the University cannot reconcile the payment or apply the funds to the correct student account. This may delay posting the scholarship to the student’s account.
Remittance notices are not used for payment reconciliation. They are only used to help investigate a payment if there is an issue, such as a missing payment, incorrect amount, or unclear ACH trace information.

What is a remittance notice?
A remittance notice (sometimes called a remittance advice or payment confirmation) is an automated email your payment system sends when a payment goes out. It typically includes details like:
Payment amount
Check number or ACH trace number
Payee information
Payment date
These are system-generated messages, not inquiries. They don't need a human response, they just need to land in the right inbox so Backpack can match them to scholarship records.

How to update your records
If your system is currently set up to send remittance notices to a different Backpack address, update your payment system or accounts payable records to use [email protected] going forward.
If you're not sure where your current remittance emails are going, check with whoever manages your AP or payment platform.
